Back in late June this year, a few of us headed up to Shanghai for the long weekend! Although I love Hong Kong, sometimes it’s really nice to get away to Shanghai for a short 3-4 day trip and just experience the amazing space, arts & culture and of course FOOD that Shanghai has to offer.
The trip itself is an easy one, only around a 2.5 to 3 hour direct flight from Hong Kong (although you must expect delays for take-off) and usually the prices are quite reasonable, around HKD$1,200 (if it’s not peak season). Flights fly into either Pudong International Airport (浦东机场) or Hongqiao airport (虹桥机场) – much smaller/less flights fly here but much closer to the city.
Asides from all the amazing xiao-long-bao’s (小笼包 – soup dumpling’s) and local Shanghainese cuisine the city has to offer, Shanghai also has one of the most picturesque skylines a city could offer that are perfect for some late-night cocktails and drinks.
This trip we headed off to Bulgari Hotel in Shanghai, who, only opening in late June 2018, had taken up the former residences of the Chamber of Commerce.
(Hidden fact: as you walk towards the lobby, and through this open space you’ll find that the lines on the ground are constructed to reflect the Chamber of Commerce building on the right). While the hotel (for guests) is situated in the tall building (where you go for drinks too), the Chamber of Commerce has been restored by Bulgari as a triple-height ceilinged ballroom spanning over 500sqm of space.
On the roof of the hotel is La Terrazza (48th floor), an outdoor rooftop bar. Here you have general seating space (on the right) and also cabana’s (but I recall there are minimum spendings for use of this space). The 47th floor also has a bar & restaurant (Il Bar & Il Ristorante) however you access La Terrazza (the rooftop bar) via the lifts on 47th floor and walk up.
